We support active-duty military students who sacrifice so much!
At the United States Sports Academy we strive to make your enrollment process as simple as possible for our military prospects, those currently serving and those who have served. In this section of the site, we have provided any information you may need to aid in your enrollment process. If there is something you cannot find through the buttons below, please contact us today at military@yihong-sh.com.
The Academy is a great institution for the active-duty service member who wants to earn a degree and benefit from the flexibility of online learning. Our competency-based online degree programs allow you to benefit from your existing knowledge. Our faculty and staff provide continuous support to help you make progress at your own pace. And our policies have been repeatedly recognized as military-friendly.
At the same time, however, it’s important to understand when the Academy is not the right choice. Our programs are designed to serve the degree-seeking student, not someone who is just looking to complete a few courses. If you think you may want to complete a degree program at the Academy—perhaps even one started somewhere else—we may be a great fit. However, if you are looking for just individual courses, you will be better served at another online or traditional university.

Military Tuition Assistance Checklist
Talk with an ESO
- Visit your Base Education Center and talk with an Education Service Officer (ESO) about why you want to attend college and which school you are looking to attend. Your ESO will be able to provide necessary paperwork regarding tuition assistance (TA) and advise you on your educational benefit eligibility.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Visit //studentaid.gov to complete an FSA ID and FAFSA
- School Code: 021706 (This code will ensure that USSA receives the completed information)
- March 1 is the Academy’s Priority Date for students to complete their FAFSA. Funds are awarded for the nine-month academic year (Fall/Spring or Spring/Summer). Students are expected to use only what is needed from their Fall/Spring award in order to have funds available for summer enrollment.
- Students should complete their FAFSA as soon after October 1 as possible to be considered for all types of aid for the approaching Fall term. In order to ensure funding is available at the beginning of the Fall semester, the ideal completion period for the FAFSA is October through April of the preceding year.
Contact USSA’s benefit specialist regarding any additional documentation that may be needed for TA and/or financial aid.
- Contact info: Tiffany Clanton, Financial Aid counselor/TA processor

Military Transcripts
Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Army National Guard
These military branches utilize the Joint Services Transcript (JST) for documenting American Council on Education (ACE)-certified military training for academic credit purposes. JST is an accepted document that documents and academically validates a service member’s military occupational experience and training along with the corresponding ACE college credit recommendations. The Academy uses the JST to determine whether military training and experience, course work, and CLEP or DSST exams qualify for credit towards a United States Sports Academy (USSA) degree.
The JST receives information directly from official military records and contains the following: current rank, military status, time in service, current academic level completed, formal military courses, additional skill identifiers and skill qualification identifiers, military occupational specialties held, standardized test scores, and descriptions and credit recommendations developed by ACE. To receive maximum transfer credits for your training and experiences, submit a current JST. Visit the JST website.
Fill in your SSN, birth date, and basic active service date (BASD) or pay entry basic date (PEBD) and click “continue.” Note that BASD is for active duty soldiers and PEBD is primarily used by guards and reservists. When in doubt, use your BASD.
Select “United States Sports Academy” from the drop-down list of universities you would like to receive your official transcripts. Transcript requests using the online delivery method will usually be sent to the university within 24 hours.
Air Force
The Air Force uses the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcript for documenting all of the ACE-certified military training and experience, coursework, and CLEP or DSST exams worthy of academic credit. USSA uses the CCAF transcript to determine whether military training and experience, course work, and CLEP or DSST exams qualify for credit towards a United States Sports Academy (USSA) degree. For information on how to request your official transcript, visit the CCAF website.

Military Tuition Assistance
The Armed Forces Tuition Assistance (TA) is a benefit paid to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Congress has given each service the ability to pay up to 100% (Up to $250 per semester hour) for the tuition expenses of its members.
Each service has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application processes and restrictions. Funds are transferred directly to the educational institution by the applicable branch of the military.
Additionally, active duty members may elect to use the MGIB “top-up” in addition to their service provided TA to cover courses when TA is almost exhausted.
Follow the links below for your particular service and start taking advantage of this GOLDEN opportunity!
